NOW CARPETS WINS FOR BEST RESIDENTIAL FLOORING IN INAUGURAL NYC X DESIGN AWARDS

NEW YORK -- Spanish contemporary rug maker Now Carpets won a NYCxDesign Award in Residential Flooring for its new Brazil hand-tufted rug, part of a debut collection called Landscape by renowned designer Arik Levy.

The inaugural design competition, presented by ICFF and Interior Design magazine, celebrates outstanding achievement across major areas of design from architecture and interior design to products, craft and technology.

Now Carpets, which has been a regular participant at ICFF, was a finalist in the residential flooring category, along with young design studio Eskayel for its Presidio rug and New York showroom Warp & Weft (with Pratt Institute) for its new Shore rug, both of which also exhibited at the contemporary furnishings fair. For the commercial flooring segment, ICFF newcomer Shore beat out Dekton by Cosentino  and Moving Floors by Mohawk Group (read story) to grab the award.

"We are so glad to receive that amazing award that consolidates our brand position in the U.S. market," Miguel Paracuellos, Now Carpet product manager, told RugNews.com at the annual ICFF.

Known among interior designers and architects for its cutting-edge designer collaborations, such as Francesc Rifé, Christian Ghion, Claudio Colucci, Michael Banks, Vidal y Satorre and Jose Albor, Now Carpets introduced audiences for the first time to the hand-tufted Landscape collection, the rug manufacturer's first program with Levy, at ICFF.

"In that short period of time [since we introduced Landscape], it is an amazing satisfaction that our products have been prescribed by companies such as Gensler, Rockwell Group, and Verderame|Cale," Paracuellos added.

Now Carpets'  Joan Coll Trias, sales manager, and Miguel Paracuellos, product manager, were thrilled by the award.

Featuring high-low textures, the four tone-on-tone designs in Landscape (Brazil, Andalucia, Monegros and Huelva) are crafted of a wool and bamboo blend.

"The Landscape collection is not just a tribute to the greatness of nature, but an evocative experience," Paracuellos added. "The contrast between rough and soft textures, the shadows drawn by the light and the graphical themes proposed in this collection, recall the asperity of the vineyards, the deserts and the rivers of Spain and the smoothness of Brazilian rain forest, as they appear to us when seen from the sky."

Brazil, shown above and below, in inky blue colorway is inspired by the waves breaking on the Brazilian coast. The high-low shimmering design is crafted of 30 percent wool and 70 percent bamboo.
