KALATY RETURNS TO HIGH POINT, CELEBRATES WITH DESIGNER EVENT & RIBBON CUTTING

HIGH POINT, N.C,  -- Kalaty attracted a standing-room-only crowd of interior designers and retail buyers to its new High Point Market showroom in IHFC (G-369) with a grand opening celebration on April 8, and lots of glamorous new area rugs.

Brothers Ramin and Kamron Kalaty presented a brief overview of the 150-year-old company's history, tracing Kalaty's roots to their great grandfather, and their grandfather's theory that in the handmade rug business 'everything is about color, color, color'.

Kalaty's best-selling colors and abstract designs make an impact in the new showroom in IFHC's Green wing.

That century-old passion for color resonated with designers, allowing Kamron Kalaty to segue into new programs offering custom colors and custom sizes for trade customers.  Using an iPad, he illustrated the new designer-friendly customization process on Kalaty's website, which allows users to change a rug's background color, motif colors, and instantly see the rug in a choice of room settings in traditional, transitional and contemporary styles.

Interior designer, artist and author Jackie Von Tobel of Las Vegas and Christina Henck of Henck Design in Philadelphia congratulate Ramin Kalaty at the Kalaty Rug designer event celebrating the company's new High Point showroom.

Opening the discussion to questions, Ramin Kalaty said designers have been impressed with lead times and he also promised that they would be treated as lovingly as the brothers treat themselves, explaining that customer service is a bedrock principle which drives the company's success.  He added, "We are growing and we continue to grow -- not only in sales, but in new product categories."

The new 3,700 foot Kalaty showroom features the rug company's broad range of weaves and design styles.

The rug maker has focused on hand-knotted rugs throughout its history, but is branching out into better machine-made and hand-tufted rugs, and introducing designer pillows to provide interior design clients and fine retailers with a better, best selection for installation throughout a project. Kalaty explained the company is still the go-to source for hand-knotted Oushak, Soumak and Tibetan weave rugs, but noted its new K-2 collections in popular price points are becoming increasingly popular. "The market has asked for these collections and they are very strong."

The glamorous new High Point showroom designed by Ira Sprinzen of Ira Associates in Woodbridge, Connecticut, maximizes the 3,700 footprint, creating a traffic pattern that lets visitors easily shop the company's full complement of weaves, yarn systems and styles.

Designers interested in developing their own licensing programs were anxious to see Kalaty's Josie Natori collection and asked about its genesis. "She was a neighbor at 7 W. 34th St. in Manhattan when we had our showroom there," Ramin Kalaty said. "That's how we met, and eventually I proposed the idea of collaborating on a rug collection.  It's been very successful for us."
