Winchester, VA - Online retailer Rugs Direct has announced the launch of
a completely new website design. According to David Craig, CEO of Rugs
Direct, the decision to redesign the website from the ground up had been
something the company wanted to do for the last couple of years.
"We
felt we needed a more modern, updated look to better serve the
decorating needs of our customers," said Craig. "To most people rugs are
important home-fashion accessories. With the large, bold graphics of the
new site design, people are going to be able to get a much better sense
of how the products will look in their homes," he suggested.
Clikzy
Creative of Alexandria, Virginia provided design and programming
services, working closely with Rugs Directs' in-house Marketing and IT
Departments. "We purposely sought a design firm that could take us
beyond the typical e-commerce look and make an impactful statement,"
said Rex Creekmur, Director of Marketing. "Clikzy had done some very
impressive work in other areas and we challenged them to do the same for
a major Internet retailer. We're very pleased with the result."
Randy
Kremer, President of Rugs Direct, also knew it was important to
incorporate the latest HTML and CSS innovations, as well as making the
site look right and work well on mobile devices. "Incorporating
'responsive design' in the new layout was a critical requirement from
day one," explained Kremer. "We keep seeing increased use of tablets and
smart phones by visitors to our site and this trend will only continue
to grow," predicted Kremer.
With
over 150,000 products available, Rugs Direct also knows how important
search and navigation features are to their online store. Last year,
Greg Culler, Chief Information Office of the company, spearheaded the
implementation of the advanced site-search capabilities of SLI Systems,
headquartered in San Jose, CA. "We started using SLI's tools prior to
the redesign," said Culler. "So it was necessary to completely update
the user interface prior to the launch. It was a challenge to go live
with the new design without a break in service, but our pre-planning
paid off perfectly," he said.
In
addition to a new look, Rugs Direct took advantage of this site update
to offer their customers a variety of new features. Bill Martin, VP of
Merchandising, highlighted a few of these: "Decorating trends are very
important to our customers right now," said Martin. "We are going
to offer the top-selling rugs that fit specific trends to make it easier
for the interested customer to shop. Also we feature the rugs created by
well-known celebrity designers and present our monthly "Best Deals" for
budget-minded consumers," he said.
"Our
goal with the new layout is to make it as easy as possible for customers
to find the perfect area rugs for their home or office," concluded
Martin.
Rugs
Direct is based in Winchester, VA and has been in business since 1997.
The company is one of Internet Retailer magazine's Top 500 e-commerce
