COURISTAN DEBUTS NEW NY SHOWROOM, UP NEXT: HIGH POINT MARKET

Couristan's new Big Apple showroom at 230 Fifth Ave. gives the company plenty of room to display a growing selection of transitional designs as well as its classics and outdoor collections.

NEW YORK -- During New York Home Fashions Market held last week, Couristan showed shoppers its latest product introductions, which expand the company's reach into new constructions, qualities and styles, in a brand-new roomy suite at 230 5th Ave.

Also on the company's agenda is a 5,000 square foot High Point showroom that is currently undergoing renovations with a soft opening planned for October (read full story).

Couristan's Steve Couri gave RugNews.com a tour of the company's new New York showroom.

"We're showing a lot of 5x8s," Couristan's Steve Couri noted of the New York semi-annual market that attracts not only big box merchants but online retailers as well. "We have about 250 rugs on display. It has been a great market. We've had our appointments and everything is going according to plan."

Part of that plan is to continue to introduce buyers to its growing assortment of transitional designs in a range of constructions, qualities and price points that are new to the company.

Couristan's new showroom in New York allows it to display about 250 rugs and features a private conference room for meetings as well.

"We've had our appointments with all the big and small guys, and it has been a very good market, Couri said. "We've come out with a lot of more transitional-type looks."

What's more, the latest introductions broaden the company's range of constructions, qualities and price points and include: the multi-colored cross-woven Gypsy, made of heat set polypropylene; hand-tufted micro-loop Crawford, made of an 80 percent wool and 20 percent nylon blend; and the high-low Calinda, crafted from heat set polypropylene with polyester. "They were all well received by market buyers," Couri noted.

Couristan's new Calinda collection's palettes of blues and gold and gray, hit the high notes at New York Home Fashions Market.

"Part of the job today is to give the retailer the opportunity to make more margin, so you have to give them the value," said Couri of the new constructions and designs.

"Couristan has a rich tradition of quality products, and being able to provide that quality while being price sensitive is a great step."

HIGH POINT HIGHLIGHTS

Couristan's new hand-tufted micro-loop Crawford collection is a new construction for the company.

The new 5,000 square foot High Point showroom, located in the Showplace Building, showroom 2350, in addition to displaying some 400 area rugs will also present Couristan's broadloom assortment. There also will be plenty of room for extra amenities, including a cafe and seating areas, according to Larry Mahurter, vice president of marketing and advertising.

"We will focus our High Point assortment on transitional and easy living décor, with a combination of color as well as soft neutral color palettes," Mahurter said, noting that Couristan's focus at High Point includes retail stores, designers, e-commerce accounts and specialty stores. "Our range of pricing will run from $99 retail 5x8 to $999 retail 5x8, including all the price points in between."

Couristan introduced the multi-color cross-woven Gypsy collection in New York expanding its color story dramatically.
