INTRODUCING TRENDCAST BY RUGNEWS.COM: "DESIGN INTELLIGENCE FOR THE RUG INDUSTRY"

RugNews.com announces TRENDCAST, a new trend forecasting and intelligence editorial service with analysis gleaned from our exclusive coverage of important trade shows, markets and showrooms at home and abroad.  Click here for the series debut edition: 2015 Trendcast 01: Cubist Angles, a direction that has been building momentum in Europe and made a bold statement at ICFF in May.

Rug designers are playing with angles in exciting new pattern layouts and textures. A range of influences from art to architecture to origami (the Japanese art of paper folding) is inspiring a look that can be bold and modern or softened and contemporary.

Angles by Jan Kath Design

Most prominent at ICFF was the U.S. debut of the striking Angles collection by German rug studio Jan Kath Design. Hand-crafted in Nepal, with 100 knots per square inch, the made-to-order range is made from hand-combed and spun Tibetan highland wool, Chinese silk, and Himalayan nettle yarn.

Dipped Origami by cc-Tapis

Shards of color explode off an undyed background creating movement and dynamism in this further exploration of angles (which began with cc-Tapis' Dipped Ribbon. Movement exists not only in the design but in the natural hues of the undyed aloe, silk, and Himalayan wool.

LAKE by Raw Edges for Golran

Milan-based rug manufacturer Golran is now represented exclusively in North America by Moroso, and their LAKE collection is based on the op-art lenticular technique. Woven of wool and bamboo silk, the rugs designs are based on traditional kilim, but woven in Nepal in a technique using varying pile heights. The collection won the Wallpaper* Design Award 2015 for the best optical illusion and it has been selected additional awards, including the Elle Deco International Design Awards 2015, the Architizer A+ Awards 2015 and the Dulux Let's Colour Awards 2015.

Korgamy by Karim for Lindstrom

At ICFF 2015, RugNews.com spotted new rugs from the new Korgamy by Karim line hanging on the exterior walls of the Lindstrom Rugs booth. Designed by Karim Rashid the hand-tufted wool rugs use sculpting to define prismatic motifs, and the collection name Korgamy implies the influence of origami. Retail $4590 in 6x9.
