DALTON,
GA -- Global color authority Pantone named Marsala wine its Color of the
Year 2015 on Dec. 4, and the exact match of the fashion-forward tone is
already in place in rug collections by Oriental Weavers set to launch in
January at the Atlanta International Area Rug Market and Las Vegas
Market. Through its exclusive product development relationship with
Pantone, the rug maker has been working months in advance on designs
featuring the new color in a range of constructions from machine-made to
handmade, and in synthetic and natural fibers.
Oriental
Weavers and PANTONE UNIVERSE entered into a licensing partnership in
2013, developing collections featuring Pantone color formulations and
approved color combinations. The collaboration gives consumers, interior
designers and retailers the assurance that Oriental Weavers' rugs are
formulated for accurate color matches to fabrics, wall coverings, paint
and other home products using the Pantone color system.
"We are
extremely proud of our new PANTONE UNIVERSE rugs featuring Marsala
18-1438, the new PANTONE Color of the Year 2015," said Jonathan Witt,
senior vice-president of Oriental Weavers. "After seeing the countless
media stories Pantone received on the Marsala announcement, consumers
across the country will flock to buy items incorporating the new Color
of the Year 2015. This tremendously benefits our retailers because only
they will be able to say they have the official PANTONE UNIVERSE area
rugs featuring the new "it"color for the New Year."
According
to Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute,
the new Marsala is "much like the fortified wine that gives Marsala its
name. This hearty, yet stylish tone is universally appealing and
translates easily to fashion, beauty, industrial design, home
furnishings and interiors," Eiseman said.
For 15
years, Pantone's Color of the Year has influenced product development
and purchasing decisions in multiple industries, including fashion, home
and industrial design, as well as product packaging and graphic design.
A marketing success story with billions of media impressions
strengthening brand recognition among consumers, the program tightens
the relationship between color trends in apparel and home products for
licensees such as Oriental Weavers.
Eiseman
says Marsala was a hit on Spring 2015 fashion runways for example, and
was featured in the PANTONE Fashion Color Report Spring 2015. Rugs
shown in Marsala wine at January markets will be available at retail
soon after consumers are exposed to the shade in fashion collections
hitting stores in early spring and late winter.
To arrive
at the Color of the Year, Pantone combs the world looking for color
influences. This can include the fashion and entertainment industries - including films that are in production, the world of art, popular travel
destinations and other socio-economic conditions. Influences may also
stem from technology, the availability of new textures and effects that
impact color, and even upcoming sports events that capture worldwide
attention.
The Atlanta International Area Rug Market will take place January 7 to 10 at AmericasMart and Las Vegas Market will take place January 18 to 22 at World Market Center.
