ATLANTA MARKET HITS: A SURE-FIRE PRIMER FOR LAS VEGAS MARKET, PART 2

ATLANTA -- For retailers and designers heading to Las Vegas Market opening on Jan. 26, RugNews.com presents the must-see designs that scored big with shoppers at last week's Atlanta International Area Rug Market.

From re-imagined traditional designs to streamlined geometric looks, the latest rugs on show in Atlanta featured the textures, colors and special features highly prized by today's shoppers. While blues and grays still reign supreme, touches of warm hues, including burnt orange, yellow, gold and soft beige, permeated the many offerings seen in the showrooms.

RugNews.com surveyed exhibitors to find out what the most talked-about collections were in each showroom. In Part 2 of this two-part series -- which you should consider your cheat-sheet to market hits at the upcoming Vegas show -- we cover companies Loloi through Trans-Ocean by Liora Manne. And don't miss what designs earned big kudos at exhibitors Amer through Kas in Part 1.

LOLOI

A display features Loloi's new Reina collection hand-knotted of hand-spun wool in a rich palette and weathered patterns.

Loloi kicked off its 15th anniversary celebrations at Atlanta Market with parties and a bevy of new collections. "One of the hits for Loloi this market has been our newest hand-knotted rugs. We wanted to help retailers raise their average ticket -- as well as raising the umbrella of our price points too," said Loloi's vice president of sales Austin Craley, "and so we introduced four new hand-knotted collections, most in 100 percent wool, and one is a wool and viscose blend. The four new collections are: Laiza, Amara, Cambridge and Reina. They've all been very well-received, as have new hand-knotted designs added to our Elixir, Heirloom and Legacy collections," Craley told RugNews.com.

LINON HOME

Linon's Shiraz collection, made of heat-set frisee yarn, features updated classic motifs in fashionable color palettes.

"Our new Shiraz Collection combines traditional designs with very on-trend color combinations," said Steve Mazarikis, vice president, Linon. Bright blues, fuchsia, orange and gold stand out against the ivory and grey ground of these designs, which are crafted of heat-set frisee yarn. The rugs are priced at around $99 for a 5x8.

L.R. RESOURCES

The luxurious designs in the performance indoor-outdoor Antiquity collection are a big for L.R. Resources.

The indoor-outdoor line Antiquity was the big draw in the L.R. Resources showroom this market. "What's unique about it, is that it's a zero-pile antique rug look," said Mike Thompson, vice president of sales/direct division and general manager. The seven patterns include Persian designs in two color groups, one bright and one neutral. A 5x8 sells for $199.

NOURISON

Winner of an America's Magnificent Carpets Award, Nourison's Artworks collection combines wool and Luxcelle

The Artworks collection garnered a lot of attention at the Nourison showroom. The rugs are made of 80 percent wool, 20 percent Luxcelle, and are loomed with a cut-pile construction and hand finishing. According to Giovanni Marra, director of marketing and digital strategy, the rugs feature "abstract, painterly looks" in a palette of of blues, greys, and accents of orange and blush.

ORIAN / PALMETTO LIVING

Buyers gravitated to the soft textured Riverstone collection from Orian's Palmetto Living brand.

In Palmetto Living, a specialty division of Orian developed specifically for furniture retailers and other higher-end specialty stores, the Riverstone collection was the showroom's big hit. The power-loomed rugs are made of polypropylene fiber treated for softness: "it looks like viscose; it has that sheen to it," noted Morgan DeBrew, director of e-commerce and marketing. With a MAP price of $399, Riverstone features around 20 designs, all done in a soothing palette of neutrals, such as spa blue, soft green, and ivory, with a range of transitional, traditional and contemporary looks, including a trending marbled pattern.

ORIENTAL WEAVERS

Oriental Weavers scored with Xanadu, a new collection of abstracts and prismatic geometrics (shown) addressing market demand for saturated colors.

Buyers loved the neutral-hued line extensions of Oriental Weavers' runaway hit collection Andorra, but in terms of brand-new lines, Xanadu "was the most talked about" noted Angie Shook, director of marketing. The line is made of space-dyed polypropylene treated with a soft wash. The 16 designs within the line tend towards a global traditional look, but also include patterns like plaid and prismatic geometric designs.

SAFAVIEH

A show-stopping array of updated traditional patterns and dramatic new colors made Samarkand a hit with Safavieh's customers.

Safavieh's Cyrus Yaraghi reported hits in multiple weaves and style categories within them, from a new 2-million point machine made line to 10 new additions to the company's long-running Samarkand collection. "The demand for fashion colors and updated looks in the traditional weaves has inspired this new collection which has been very well received," Yaraghi said.

SURYA

Surya checks off all the right fashion requisites with the debuting hand-knotted Ivorine.

Among the many new on-trend items from Surya, Ivorine is considered by the company to be one of the top hits this season. Made of hand-knotted New Zealand wool combined with viscose, the collection debuts with striking traditional patterns in two colorways, bright red or navy blue, and with distressing that fades to a beige and grey background. A short fringe completes the look.

TAMARIAN

Perception by Tamarian hits the high notes in neutral and bold palettes.

A hit in Tamarian's high-end showroom was Perception. "It has a subtle sophistication," said Chris Saliga, national sales manager. Made of 90 percent wool with 10 percent silk, a popular abstract grid design featured a color palette of grey and cream with accents of yellow, sky blue, and teal.

TRANS-OCEAN BY LIORA MANNE

Gypsy Stripe from Trans-Ocean's new Cosmos collection brings boho-chic texture and color to the indoor-outdoor category.

Smartly situated with a new double-length booth in The Gardens temporaries in Building 2, Trans-Ocean drew major traffic from gift and home decor buyers. Stephen Hoberman pointed to the Chelsea collection's machine made Kilim design  and Tribal Diamond from the Beaux collection (a cotton/polypropylene mix) as top sellers in the under $150 range. Expected to score equally well in Vegas, Gypsy Stripe from the in/out Cosmos collection is hand-woven in India from solution dyed polyester.
