01262018 Tayse Records Strong 2017, Heads To Vegas With Solid Foundation For Growth

Tayse's focus on low- to mid-price machine-made rug collections is paying off with brick and mortarretailers and e-tailers.

CALHOUN, Ga. -- With the opening of a dramatically expanded headquarters and a double-digit sales growth increase under its belt, Tayse Rugs heads to Las Vegas Market, opening on Jan. 28, poised for another solid year.

The Georgia-based company, like many players in the area rug business, experienced not only an upbeat 2017 but recorded one of its strongest December sales months. Tayse hopes its winning streak continues and the company is bringing fresh looks to its World Market Center showroom, C-768, to inspire buyers.

"We have grown a little over 20 percent in 2017. It was a great year for our company," Jay Dogan, COO and CFO of the 13-year-old company, told RugNews.com in an exclusive interview. Despite the fact that the U.S. reached near record high December sales, with many area rug players reporting brisk December business, consumer confidence had dropped by the end of December, Dogan says. "But with the new tax reform and its potential effects on corporate decisions and hiring, the outcome of the first quarter of 2018 should be back on track with better consumer spending," he explains.

That said, Tayse is positioning itself for another successful year by bolstering its logistics capabilities. Late last year the company announced the acquisition of its new headquarters that includes sprawling grounds, a facility with 300,000 square feet of warehouse space and room for 250 employees (read full story).

"For Tayse Rugs, one of the biggest challenges in 2017 was warehouse space. Due to our growth, we were suffering for additional space for the new and upcoming collections," Dogan continues. "Luckily we found our new home very close to our existing headquarters."

So with that challenge dealt and the company is currently shifting its operations to its new nearby location, Tayse can turn the focus to product development. With a roster of 3,000 rug SKUs, Tayse has plenty to offer shoppers, and for winter 2018 Vegas market buyers it is rolling out fresh new area rug collections.

"For 2018 we will be introducing the Madison collection -- it is a perfect mix of traditional and trendy designs with neutral hues and deep blue," Dogan notes. "Madison will address what our customers have been asking for and will definitely fit into what is currently trending. Based on our data, traditional was our top selling style in 2017 followed by modern contemporary. In response to that, we will also be launching Milan, which offers predominantly traditional styles."

Tayse has carved a niche for itself as a low- to mid-price manufacturer of machine-made rugs -- a proposition that appeals to many e-commerce buyers -- and retail customers too.

"We see mostly retailers and e-commerce customers during winter markets," Dogan explains. "It is good to see our customers' reactions to new collections and decide on our direction during the year.

"As a company, we are in low to medium qualities and price points. We will still be investing in this group of products in 2018. E-commerce was and will be a significant sales income for us. We believe the e-commerce channel will be dominant for many companies' growth in 2018."
