TUFENKIAN REPORTS $46,000 DONATION
FOR NEPAL EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS

NEW YORK - James Tufenkian, founder of Tufenkian Carpets, has announced a total donation in excess of $46,000 in support of the company's fundraising efforts for emergency relief in Nepal.  The Tufenkian Foundation matched donations of $23,085 to its Mercy Corps fundraiser to achieve the total number.

Tufenkian explained that Mercy Corps, a humanitarian organization with long ties to Nepal, was able to respond immediately to the earthquake. In a statement, Tufenkian said: "They provided over 31,000 people with emergency kits within the first 30 days of the earthquake and continue to make their way to remote villages and the most devastated communities. In addition to the emergency kits they have also been distributing $75 in cash to individuals to help cover immediate costs. Mercy Corps is on their way to reaching over 100,000 individuals with these kits and emergency funds."

Although the matching funds program has ended, the Tufenkian Foundation will continue to collect donations through its fundraising page to aid the work of Mercy Corps for the people of Nepal. "Nepal remains one of the poorest countries in the world, and frequent natural disasters like earthquakes and floods are especially devastating to families with few resources to protect themselves and recover. Mercy Corps is committed to continue their work helping millions in the region and the funds we've raised will help sustain their work through other ongoing programs," Tufenkian's statement said.
