Albert Moomjy Dies at 88

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug 6, 2014 for Albert Moomjy, one of the country's most knowledgeable Oriental rug experts and a partner in the ground breaking Einstein-Moomjy retail chain.

ENGLEWOOD, NJ -- Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug 6, 2014 for Albert Moomjy, one of the country's most knowledgeable Oriental rug experts and a partner in the ground breaking Einstein-Moomjy retail chain. Mr. Moomjy died at Englewood Hospital on Tuesday, Aug. 5. He was 88.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug 6 at St. Mary's Armenian Church of LIvingston, NJ.  The committal service was held Thursday, Aug. 7 at Cedar Grove Cemetery,  Flushing, NY..

Albert Moomjy was born in Istanbul, Turkey, and came to the U.S. in 1937; he had resided in Bergen County for the past several years.

Mr.Moomjy served in the U.S. Army's 12 Armored Division during World War II and was a member of the East Hanover Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He was the co-founder with his brother Walter Moomjy and brothers Ted and Ernst Einstein  of Einstein-Moomjy, known as "The Carpet Department Store" which sold all types of rugs and carpeting in multiple stores in the New York metropolitan area. . Mr. Moomjy's area of expertise was fine Oriental rugs. After the partnership dissolved Albert Moomjy formed MER Rugs, specializing in importing fine imported rugs.

Albert Moomjy.was predeceased by his  wife, Alice. He is survived by two sons: Alexander and his wife, Maureen, and Robert and his wife, Christine and grandchildren, Nicole, Gregory, Nadine, Matthew and Alexander. His brother, Walter Moomjy, .also survives him.
