ATLANTA -- Area rug companies showing at the Atlanta International Gift & Home Furnishings Market had mixed reviews this summer, with those on home furnishings floors, or in temporaries or gift buildings reporting better traffic than exhibitors on rug floors.
Many rug execs agreed that Atlanta Market is in a period of flux when it comes to the rug category. And while they appreciate new owner IMC's announcement of a major Atlanta Next investment in remodeling (read story), several were unclear as to how IMC management will redefine the show as it relates to companies outside of the gift business.
Rug exhibitors on higher floors of Building 1, where hot furniture and accent companies also exhibit, benefited from visits by regional designers and furniture store buyers. Among them were Surya and Jaipur Living, which both offered events and ample space to enjoy extensive daily lunch menus. Jaipur's book signing with designer Shayla Copas
was a magnet for hundreds of her fans, for example. And Surya's new trend vignettes
were must-sees, as was Loloi's new Textile Wall Art Gallery
Temporary exhibitors such as Eliko (which displayed vintage pieces on the Antiques floor and new rugs on the 7th
floor), reported strong sales. And, Trans-Ocean (which shows in the Outdoor Living temporaries in Building 2) was constantly busy with attendees from gift and outdoor store buyers to designers (read story
). Likewise, LR Resources execs said they were "blown away" with sales of the company's new Ox Bay Trading home decor line shown at manufacturer's rep agency Darrah & Co in Building 2 (read story).
