FURNITURE FIRST BUYING GROUP
ADDS FOUR NEW MEMBERS
HARRISBURG, PA – The Furniture First board of directors approved four retailers as new members of the national buying group. Best Furniture Gallery, Crockett Furniture, Kutters Furniture and Fish Furniture Shop brings the Furniture First membership roster to over 200 stockholders, with 427 furniture stores in 47 states.
Best Furniture Gallery, in Fort Thomas, KY, was founded in 1941 and has operated under the current ownership since 2002.
Crockett Furniture, in Gorham, ME, (in the Portland area), was founded in 1971 as Lake Region Furniture.
Kutters Furniture, in Hutchinson, KS, was founded in 1977.
Fish Furniture Shop, a two-store chain with locations in Mayfield Heights and North Olmsted, OH (near Cleveland), was founded in 1925 by the Fischgrund family. The stores are now owned and operated by the second generation of the Geller family, which purchased the business in 1963.
“Furniture First’s membership has grown substantially in recent years and that has allowed us to provide more benefits to our members. We have 104 home furnishings programs and 36 service programs that bring our members huge benefits. That’s what makes us the sought-after buying group to belong to,” said Furniture First president Bill Hartman. “Furniture First’s rebates, extra discounts, exclusive merchandise, private labels, consumer newsletters, fact tags, bulletin board and individual member consulting allows our members to have a significant competitive edge over their competition.”
The qualifications for membership in the National Buying Group result in a high-quality cooperative. Furniture First only accepts stores that are full-line independents that have been in business for more than five years, though the average age of member businesses is more than 45 years.
Stores are required to have good credit and meet minimum volume requirements. Most members, whether they have a single storefront or a chain of locations, serve the solid middle market of consumers. Since the group is geographically exclusive by representation, members are not in direct competition with each other, adding to the overall willingness to share and collaborate among the cooperative’s members.
Furniture First participated in the Las Vegas Market where it displayed its exclusive private label bedding line. The mattresses, which are manufactured by Serta, target the promotional end of the mattress market. The lineup will also be on display at the High Point Market, April 20 to 25 in Furniture First’s new showroom: IHFC G-770.
Furniture First is a 19-year-old national home furnishings and mattress only buying group serving full line independent retailers with annual sales over $2 million.
